Carlos Escalante is the CEO of Boxel Studio, a leading full-service animation, VFX, and new media studio based in the United States, with strategic operations throughout Latin America and Vancouver, British Columbia. Under his leadership, Boxel has become a key production partner for the entertainment industry, providing comprehensive digital services including design, 3D modeling, texturing, rigging, VFX, in-game cinematics, and character design.

Boxel’s notable production credits under his leadership include John Wick 4 (Lionsgate), Flamin’ Hot (Disney / Hulu), The Fairly Odd Parents and Blue’s Clues and You! Feature (Nickelodeon / Paramount+), Superman & Lois (The CW / Warner Bros.), Twisted Metal (Sony Pictures), Pennyworth (Warner Bros. Before joining Boxel, Carlos served for 15 years as CEO of Viastara, a top-tier distributor of specialized consumer electronics across Mexico and Latin America. Viastara represented renowned brands such as Starlink, Ring, Sonos, Bose, JBL, Dyson, Garmin, Logitech, and many others. He also held earlier roles at McKinsey & Co. and Coopers & Lybrand.

Carlos holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from San Diego State University, is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) in California, and earned his MBA with a focus on Entrepreneurship and Finance from Columbia University.

FREDDY CHÁVEZ

CREATIVE DIRECTOR FOR ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

Freddy Chávez Olmos is a multidisciplinary Creative Director with over 19 years of experience in filmmaking and visual effects. Renowned for staying at the forefront of emerging technologies, he blends AI and innovation to empower creators and shape the future of visual storytelling. 

Born in Puebla, Mexico, Freddy studied special effects makeup in Los Angeles and apprenticed under legendary artist Dick Smith (The Exorcist). Now based in Vancouver, he has contributed to projects by visionary directors such as Guillermo del Toro, Neill Blomkamp, Robert Rodriguez, Tim Burton, and Christopher Nolan, working with top-tier VFX studios like Double Negative, Industrial Light & Magic, Weta Digital, and Image Engine. 

In the VFX space, Freddy has worked on high-profile films including Blade Runner 2049, Chappie, Sin City, Deadpool, The Dark Knight, Tron: Legacy, Watchmen, Pacific Rim, and Fantastic Beasts, showcasing his strong technical and creative expertise across blockbuster productions. 

His award-winning directorial debut, SHHH, received international acclaim, including praise from Guillermo del Toro. As a member of the Directors Guild of Canada, he has directed episodes of Two Sentence Horror Stories (CW/Netflix) and written for the Mexican horror anthology La Hora Marcada (2022). 

Currently, Freddy serves as Creative Director for AI and Innovation at Boxel Studio. He is also part of the Creative Partners Program (CPP) and beta testing groups for cutting-edge tools such as Leonardo AI, Luma Dream Machine, Pika Labs, Beeble Switchlight, Simulon, and Wonder Studio. His recent work on Superman & Lois exemplifies his forward-thinking approach, applying machine learning to streamline and enhance production workflows.

A sought-after speaker, Freddy has presented at leading industry events including San Diego Comic-Con, TEDx, VES, and SIGGRAPH, where he shares his vision for the evolving landscape of digital entertainment.

WEVERTON ALVES

VFX SUPERVISOR

Weverton Alves is a seasoned Visual Effects Supervisor and Lead Artist with over 12 years of experience in the computer graphics industry. His passion for technology and photorealistic rendering has driven his career, leading to collaborations on numerous high-profile productions.
 
Early in his career, Alves developed strong technical skills using tools such as Maya, Nuke, and Mental Ray. Fluent in Spanish, English, and Portuguese, he has successfully led international teams across borders. In 2011, he relocated to Vancouver, Canada, with the goal of contributing to major Hollywood productions. This decision marked the beginning of his involvement in blockbuster films. 

At Industrial Light & Magic (ILM), Alves contributed to visual effects for films including Avengers: Infinity War (2018), Avengers: Endgame (2019), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Doctor Strange (2016), Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and Guardians of the Galaxy (2014). He also worked on Falling Skies (2011–2015). 

In 2019, Alves was nominated for a Leo Award for his work as CG Supervisor on the television series Project Blue Book (2019). The following year, he led the CG team for Superman & Lois (2021), a role that paved the way for his transition into a leadership position at Boxel Studio—One of the largest VFX / Animation Studios in North America, with operations in the USA, Vancouver, and Latin America. 

At Boxel Studio, Alves has played a key role in optimizing VFX and animation workflows, significantly enhancing asset and environment quality. His multicultural insight and multilingual communication have strengthened collaboration within the studio and with international clients. Under his supervision, Boxel contributed to productions such as John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023), Star Trek: Picard Season 3 (2023), Flamin’ Hot (2023), Pennyworth (2019–2022), Zombies 4 (2024), Twisted Metal (2023), Blue’s Big City Adventure (2022), G20 (2025), The Mosquito Coast (2021–2023), The Santa Clauses (2022–2023), and Seasons 3 and 4 of Superman & Lois (2023–2024). 

A defining aspect of Alves' approach is his commitment to innovation. Rather than replicating industry trends, he has focused on building a unique production methodology—what he refers to as ""The Boxel Way""—to consistently deliver  top-tier visual results. His professional journey reflects both technical excellence and creative leadership in the VFX industry.

JENNIFER KO

PRODUCTION MANAGER

Jennifer Ko is an accomplished VFX Production Manager at Boxel Studio, bringing over a decade of experience across content production, financing, and visual effects. Her transition into VFX was a natural progression, rooted in a comprehensive understanding of the content lifecycle—from deal-making and budgeting to post-production delivery.

Before joining Boxel, Jennifer served as the client-side VFX Production Manager on Superman & Lois (Seasons 1-4) for Warner Bros. Discovery, where she oversaw the end-to-end delivery of visual effects across dozens of episodes. She managed budgets, schedules, and cross-functional communication between external vendors, studio executives, showrunners, and on-set production teams, ensuring alignment across creative, technical, and financial goals. This experience provided her with deep insight into the expectations and pressures of studio-side teams—a perspective she now brings to her vendor-side work with empathy, foresight, and a proactive mindset.

Earlier in her career, Jennifer worked in business affairs and international content investment, managing multi-milliondollar portfolios and collaborating with producers and global broadcasters to structure complex financing and coproduction deals. Her content investment portfolio included prestige titles such as Sherlock, Ripper Street, Human Planet, and Orphan Black (BBC Studios), while her business affairs work covered factual entertainment titles including Chopped Canada, Coldwater Cowboys, and Yukon Gold (Paperny Entertainment / eOne).

As VFX Production Manager at Boxel Studio, Jennifer brings clarity, structure, and momentum to complex productions. She has contributed to projects such as The Thundermans: Undercover (Season 1), My Weird School (both for Nickelodeon), and continues to serve as a vital link between creative, technical, and executive teams. She is known for her ability to identify issues early, streamline cross-departmental collaboration, and maintain forward progress—even under high pressure and tight deadlines.

Jennifer is passionate about developing workflows that promote both creative excellence and sustainable production practices. Her approach emphasizes precision, empathy, and collaboration—ensuring every project is delivered with care and a shared sense of purpose.
